The client wanted a new roof for an extension to match the original building’s aesthetics. The consideration was for a zinc sheet system, but given the client’s budget, other solutions were considered as alternatives.

A timber warm roof was constructed, incorporating 120mm PIR insulation, Polyroof standing seam trims, and the Polyroof Protec waterproofing system, providing a seamless, lightweight, and cost-effective solution whilst giving the visual effect of a zinc standing seam roof.

The timber warm roof was constructed, comprising an OSB TG4 deck, a vapour control membrane, 120mm PIR insulation, followed by another OSB TG4 deck on top.

Polyroof standing-seam roofing trims were then installed at 600mm centres to create the aesthetic of a standing-seam roof. Once these were in place, a fully reinforced layer of Polyroof Protec was installed on the roof. This was sanded meticulously to remove any defects and achieve a smooth finish that replicates the appearance of a zinc sheet.

To finish off, another coat of Polyroof Protec, pigmented to RAL 7016 (Anthracite Grey), was applied.

By combining a warm roof construction with Polyroof Protec and standing seam trims, we delivered the perfect solution to the client’s needs and strict budget, whilst providing the desired aesthetic. This project was nominated for the Small Project Of The Year Award (Under 25k) at the UK Roofing Awards, hosted by the NFRC, and was crowned the Winner at the awards dinner at the Plaza Hotel in London.
