Flat Roof Upgrade, Horwich
These residential flats required a thermal upgrade and a waterproofing solution for the flat roof and balcony areas, which were experiencing persistent leaks. Following a detailed assessment, it was evident that the existing insulated felt roofs and asphalt balconies had failed, requiring full replacement of the roof areas down to the metal deck substrate and the balconies down to the concrete substrate.

A full rip-up of the existing roof and balcony systems was undertaken, followed by the installation of a Vapour Control Membrane and 150mm insulation
To provide robust, reliable waterproofing, a WestWood Wecryl PMMA waterproofing system was installed. This cold-applied, fully reinforced system was selected for its rapid curing, seamless application, and its suitability for use on both roofing areas and balconies.
The existing roof areas and balconies were removed to the substrate, allowing the installation of new Vapour Control membranes and insulation to provide the building with the required thermal upgrade. Once the insulation was in place, the Wecryl PMMA system was applied, forming a seamless, fully reinforced and bonded waterproof membrane. The balconies were completed using the same process and treated to an anti-slip finish using Wecryl 420.
The Results
By combining a full roof and balcony replacement, insulation upgrades, and WestWood Wecryl PMMA waterproofing, this project delivered a high-performance waterproofing solution that addressed the symptoms and causes of water ingress, resulting in a reliable, long-lasting waterproofing system to protect the building for the future.
