Curry’s Retail Unit Roof Refurbishment – Project Overview

This project was for a large retail unit in Worcester, measuring 1500 m², with numerous roof leaks reported by the client across several areas. After a roof survey, it was clear that the roof would need to be fully refurbished to achieve a waterproofing solution and bring a new lease of life to a failing roof.

The Challenge
  • De-lamination of existing Plastisol coating to the roof sheets
  • Multiple areas of water ingress throughout a large area
  • Requirement of a durable yet versatile waterproofing solution
The Solution

A high-pressure cleaning of the entire roof was required to remove the failing Plastisol coating, followed by installation of a WestWood Wecryl PMMA waterproofing system to provide the required durable, waterproof solution.

Installation Process

After using a high-pressure jet wash and removing the failed Plastisol coating, WestWood WMP 113 metal primer was applied to achieve the bond required between the metal roof sheets and the WestWood Wecryl PMMA waterproofing system. The end laps and cross laps of the roof sheets were treated with a reinforcement fleece and Wecryl 230 before the roof was fully coated in Wecryl 488.

The Results
  • Complete elimination of water ingress

  • Durable, seamless waterproofing solution

  • Prolonged life of the existing roof sheets

  • Long-term protection and peace of mind for the client

Conclusion

By using the WestWood Wecryl waterproofing system with reinforcement of the end laps and cross laps, this delivered a high-performance waterproofing solution that addressed the causes and symptoms of water ingress, providing a reliable roof system to protect the building and roof sheets.
