This project was for a large manufacturing plant for Recticel in Corby, covering 10,000 m² across 2 roof areas. There was extensive water ingress throughout the site, as well as delamination of the Plastisol coating on both roof areas. The decision was made to apply a silicone-based spray coating to achieve the required level of waterproofing.

A high-pressure jet wash was required across the entire 10,000 m² roof to remove the failed Plastisol coating. The installation of the Giromax Girosil cut edge waterproofing system was chosen to add longevity to the life of the metal sheet roof aswell as the solution to water ingress, and the fact that this can be applied via an airless spray unit to give an even finish

The area was pressure-washed down the metal substrate. All end laps were sealed using a reinforcement tape and Girosil. The cross laps were mechanically ground back to remove any signs of corrosion from the sheets before being treated with the cut edge corrosion system, consisting of sealant applied by a sealant gun and blended in by paintbrush using Girosil base coat, before the Girosil could be applied via an airless spray unit to the full roof area.

By applying the Girosil cut-edge corrosion treatment, the client has gained more longevity from the original roofing sheets by removing and preventing further corrosion. With the Girosil then sprayed over the remaining roof areas, this provided continuous, seamless waterproofing that not only stopped water ingress but also extended the life of the roofing sheets, so replacement is not required.
